    Green light for business-critical data

For companies wanting to provide a fast, reliable and secure connection between individual sites, the only option used to be an internal wide-area network (WAN) made up of dedicated data lines. But establishing these networks involved a great deal of time and effort. Today, virtual private networks can be implemented quickly and easily thanks to multiprotocol label switching – MPLS for short. This innovative technology enables users to send data via an existing network, while enjoying the benefits of what seems like a private network. MPLS supports the connection-oriented transfer of data packets over an established line in a connectionless network. To this end, all nodes receive the information required to forward the data to the correct location (label switching).
MPLS allows companies to control data transfer – and is more reliable than a public IP network such as the Internet. Data finds its way from node to node almost independently. A public network cannot always provide the resources necessary for transporting certain types of information. After all, what is sufficient for personal communications is not acceptable for corporate network traffic. With MPLS, the various types of data – voice, email, Internet, etc. – can even be classified according to priority. This ensures the lights are always green for business-critical data.
