T-Systems in the UK teamed up with technology news group, silicon.com, to host a high-level Financial Services industry forum at the London Stock Exchange on June 15.
Attended by more 40 senior banking and insurance IT industry experts, the forum was created to help T-Systems in the UK position itself as a thought-leader and potential partner in what is one of world's most highly competitive and dynamic sectors.
Senior IT executives from major firms such as Barclays, Legal & General, Abbey National and GE Life took part in two interactive and thought-provoking debates that highlighted the technology challenges that the banking and insurance industries faced in Britain and internationally.
Innovation was the key to attracting audiences to this forum and the combination of the prestigious Stock Exchange venue, two hot topics and a powerful team of key panel speakers including Richard Hackworth, Head of Group IT Security for HSBC, David Lester, CIO of the London Stock Exchange, and Graham Yellowley, IT Director for Mitsubishi Securities, combined to make the event a valuable forum and a great success.
Representing T-Systems in the debates were Dr Berthold Kaib, Managing Director of Competence Centre Banking and Thomas Sasse, Vice President BPO Financial Services, both of whom are working closely with T-Systems UK Business Development Director Alex McBride to attract major British banking and insurance deals to T-Systems.
"The UK Financial Services sector is being heavily targeted by all major IT services companies and we knew we needed to innovate to attract this hard-to-reach audience," said the UK Head of Corporate Marketing Tim Hunt who worked with PR Executive Alice Beament to deliver the forum. "Designed in partnership with silicon.com, this debate-style event took more than three months planning and two months of relentless external communications consisting of direct mail, a web-based campaign and telemarketing," explained Tim. "I'm pleased we achieved our objective on the day and also delighted the spin-off is improved brand visibility and awareness for us across the sector."
Feedback from presenters and attendees has been very positive. Said Dr Kaib: "Talks with some members of the audience proved that the approach was good and was appreciated. It was fun and an honour for me to take part in the event and I am confident we are on a good path in the Finance Industry in the UK."
Thomas Sasse was equally enthusiastic when he said: "It was a great pleasure to have participated in this well-organised and successful event. Iam confident that Financial Services BPO will be able to make a significant contribution with a securities services offering tailored to the UK.”
Praise has also begun to come in from participants. One senior IT executive from a top 10 financial services group emailed to say: "It was a most enjoyable occasion and a chance to discuss issues in more detail with some of the presenters. Please pass on my thanks to T-Systems."
In summing up this high-visibility launch, CEO Jan van der Merwe said: "A first class event. I enjoyed it and I am proud to know that this was our initiative!"
In addition to debating financial services, delegates were also given a taste of two other exciting innovative T-Systems projects. A stand exhibiting T-Systems technology behind the 2006 FIFA World Cup was hosted by Christoph Kruger and a second stand demonstrating T-Systems expertise in Telematics, Toll Collect and pay-as-you-drive insurance was hosted by Richard Cornish.
